Gauteng’s Big Gift: R560 Million to Help 4,000+ Students Shine in School!

Gauteng’s doing something big! Every year, they’re putting aside a massive R560 million to help more than 4,000 smart students from townships and no-fee schools. Premier Panyaza Lesufi and Education MEC Matome Chiloane shared this exciting news at Vodaworld in Midrand.

The Gauteng City Region Academy (GCRA) is giving out special bursaries, and the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) is also helping out for those not covered by GCRA. They’re focusing on students from tough spots like townships, hostels, and informal settlements. This isn’t just any bursary – it’s a game-changer! It covers everything: school fees, books, a place to stay, travel money, a brand new laptop, and even extra cash for living expenses.

Lesufi said, “You’re not just students, you’re getting a one-of-a-kind bursary. If your dream course costs R300,000, we’ve got it covered!” Lesufi has a message for parents, “I’m taking over, and I’m giving out R560 million to these amazing students.” It’s not just about the money; it’s about caring and supporting talent”.

Matome wants parents to be more involved, “Let’s talk to our kids, if they have problems at school or need help, we want them to speak up and a big thanks to teachers they’re the backbone of a strong education system”.
