The Northern Cape SAPS Management  welcomed the sentence handed down to a 64 year old male accused in the Galeshewe Regional Court recently.

The accused visited his friend in Vergenoeg, Galeshewe, on Saturday 09 April 2022 at 21:00. The 8-year-old female victim’s father left the house to go fetch something at his neighbours’ house, leaving the accused and the victim alone. On his return, the victim reported to her father that the accused raped her.

The accused was arrested for rape after the police were informed, and a case docket was opened.

The accused was found guilty and convicted and sentenced to 18 years direct imprisonment by the Galeshewe Regional Court on Friday the 29th of September 2023.

The Northern Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola commended the investigating Officer Detective Warrant Officer, Aretha Claasen, for her outstanding investigation which led to the conviction and sentence of the accused.

“The violence perpetrated against the volume bill members of the society will not be tolerated especially women and children,” said the provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola.
