The roads that are nearby king Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (ICC) will be closed because the biggest travel show is coming up, Africa’s Travel Indaba. The City Council mentioned that the Walnut Avenue gate will be closed as a prominent event, Africa’s Travel Indaba, is approaching and vehicles coming from Bram Fischer and Dr AB Xuma road will not be able to pass near ICC.

The setup of gates will start on Monday, 6th May and continue until the 20th of May. Some of the closed gates will be Stalwart Simelane, Samora Machel, Or Tambo Parade, Boscombe Terrace, and Playfair. The City Council urges motorists to use alternative gates during this period.

Africa’s Travel Indaba is expected to attract more than 9,000 people from May 13 to May 16. There will be around 120 small businesses exhibiting, with others coming from 26 different African countries. Colonel Boysie Zungu, speaking on behalf of the City Council police, mentioned that the gate closures will ensure the smooth running of Africa’s Travel Indaba.

“The municipal police will be deployed throughout the city of Durban. Security will be tight as the
Indaba is attended by people from various countries. There will be government officials,
international buyers, exhibitors, and other stakeholders,” said Colonel Boysie Zungu.

The Mayor of Durban, Mxolisi Kaunda, assured that everything will run smoothly as Durban has a
history of successfully hosting global events. He encouraged Durban residents and stakeholders in the tourism industry to welcome guests warmly.
