By Zanele Makola

On Wednesday, 2 October 2024, South African gospel artist Solomon Molokoane, popularly known as Solly Moholo, was announced dead by his team. The award-winning music icon had been in hospital for several weeks after falling ill while on a music tour in Botswana last month. The gospel singer was known for his hit songs “Ke Latlhile Bokinza” and “Robala Ka Khotso.”

“It is with great sadness that we are informing you, on behalf of the Molokoane family, that our beloved legend ‘Solly Moholo’ has sadly passed away. He was hospitalized after falling ill following his pre-album launch tour in Botswana,” Solly Moholo’s family said.

They added that he will be sorely missed for the healing music he gave to people over the years. His team mentioned that the family would like to request privacy and time to mourn the passing of their loved one and prepare for his burial. The team said that details of his memorial and funeral will be shared in the coming days on social media platforms.

Limpopo Artists Movement (LAM) Provincial Chairperson, Mphoza Mashabela, said that Solly’s passing will truly leave a significant gap in the entertainment industry, particularly in the sione music genre.

“We lost Oleseng Shuping, Kenny Makweng, and now Solly Moholo. I am so heartbroken. I had planned to book him to perform at the Limpopo Legends Awards as a guest artist. I knew him very well. He was a humble man and a top producer. He discovered Winnie Mashaba, the late Matlakala, and others.

“Limpopo people supported his music from the first album. As LAM, we even tried to raise funds to pay his medical bills. Unfortunately, he left us. Only God knows who will celebrate his life forever,” he said.
