BY: PRUDENCE NHAVINGO

A statement from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development issued a statement claiming that the green army EPWP participants has expired without consulting with Mr Panyaza Lesufi, the Gauteng Premier who started the programme.

The Gauteng Traffic Wardens and EPWP green army contracts were created by the Gauteng Premier Mr Panyaza Lesufi who created a programme named Nasi iSpane which aimed at creating jobs for the youth. The EPWP green army are mandated to clean our environment and waste removal while the Gauteng Traffic Warden are preventing us from crime.

After seeing the statement issued Mr Panyaza Lesufi took it to the internet to comment on the statement issued as he states that he did not approve to such, and the green army’s contract had not expired. He also stated that Khululekile Mase the acting head of Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment is the one who issued the false statement without his approval.

“The unfortunate absence of the MECs is creating this situation but I’m attending to it,” Mr Panyaza Lesufi tweeted.

And some people commented on the matter on social media by saying that the jobs were created just to bribe the South African youth for them to vote for ANC as the election near and now that the elections are over their contracts are coming to an end.

The EPWP and the green army were hired in May 2023 and Mr Khululekile Mase, the Head of Department of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment stated on the statement he issued that the contract would come to an end on the 31 of May 2024.

As the statement reached the social media platforms several people commented on the statement issued.

“No Panyaza it seems your house is not in order, since the re-election, you promised efficient governance,” comment @Tebogo Koma on the social media platform named X.com.
