Red Army defeated Operation Dubula in the volleyball tournament on Thursday, 22nd of August 2024. The match took place at TUT Main Campus, Pretoria West, with Red Army claiming a narrow 15-14 victory.

In a match that had fans on the edge of their seats, Red Army staged a stunning comeback to defeat Operation Dubula in a thrilling 3-set battle at the volleyball tournament in Pretoria West, TUT Main Campus.

Mkhabela Thabang, a player for Operation Dubula, commented, “We played volleyball, and it was a great game. The game was fair. Both teams were balanced. The team that finished in third place deserved it, and the team that won also deserved it. We played well,” he said, showing off his medal.

In the first set, Operation Dubula played strongly, winning with a score of 25-20, showcasing their powerful serves and precise spikes led by their star hitter, Thabang. In the second set, Red Army fought back and found their rhythm, with setter Mahali orchestrating a more coordinated attack. Red Army edged out Operation Dubula with a score of 25-23.

Mahali Mack, a Red Army player, briefly commented, “I played for Red Army, and we won the game or league.”

In the third set, Red Army led the score by 15-14. The tension was palpable, and both teams played exceptionally well. At the end of the match, Mkhabela Thabang earned third place for his outstanding performance as an Operation Dubula player.

Brown Maphuthuma, a Sports Management student and the event organizer, commented, “In my opinion, today’s event was great. It brought many people to the campus to relax and socialize, helping to alleviate academic stress. Today’s game was obviously fair. As a Sports Management student, our task was to host this event with others, including organizing sponsors and everything else. We faced challenges, but in the end, we enjoyed it,” he said.
