Sizakahle High School Parents Concerned: Teachers Refrain from Classroom Teaching

Concerned parents of students at Sizakahle High School in Mnambithi have recently noticed that teachers have not been entering the classrooms to teach for the past few days.

Parents at this school who have been taking their children to school daily, in the hope of hearing about their progress, were alarmed when their children claimed they were not being taught. It seems very concerning why they agreed to not enter the classrooms to teach.

Phumelele Dlomo, who is involved in the school committee, stated that there is no clear communication that would prevent teachers from teaching.

“We arrived at the school, teachers who wanted to speak to us. At the school committee meeting we had on Monday, the head teacher explained that teachers say they are not teaching because there is a shortage of teaching equipment, which I cannot verify as true because some of the teaching aids such as chalk and others are available,” he said.

He said after a successful meeting as parents did not meet with the principal as expected, they agreed that they will not allow their children to go to school until the Department of Education in the Province intervenes to resolve this issue.

Albertina Moyo, who’s one of the concerned parents, said that this decision was taken to ensure that the costs incurred by those going in ensure that students go to school as others had complained.

She emphasized that they will not allow children to be taught just to spend money unnecessarily. “We are worried about the future of our children, but there is no way I can agree to just let them go to school to waste a lot of things because when children do not learn, they will stay in school all day and will continue to do inappropriate things,” continued Moyo.

Spokesperson Mr. Muzi Mahlambi assured that they have received a report on this matter and will look into it.
