South African Acting Legend Don Mlangeni Nawa Passes Away at 65.

South Africa veteran actor Don Eric Mlangeni Nawa, has passed away this morning, at the age of 65. Born on June 7, 1959, in Boksburg, Mlangeni Nawa’s illustrious career spanned over three decades, leaving an indelible mark on the nation’s television and film industry.

Nawa began his acting journey in theatre before transitioning to television in the early 1990s when he appeared on shows such as Hlala Kwabafileyo and Ubambo Lwam. He gained widespread acclaim for his role as Zebedee Matabane in the long-running soapy Isidingo, a character he portrayed from 1998 until 2014. His performance earned him the Golden Horn Award for Best Actor in a TV Soap in 2006. Beyond Isidingo, Nawa showcased his versatility in various roles, including Laqhasha in ‘Sgudi ‘Snaysi, Moseki in The Throne, and appearances in Uzalo, The Estate, Legacy and Shaka Ilembe. In 2019, he made his film debut as a SWAT Commander in Losing Lerato. His contributions to the arts were recognised with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2018 Royalty Soapie Awards.

Bra Don, as he was affectionately called by his friends and fans was a devoted husband and father of five. He often spoke about the importance of family, sharing moments with his children in public appearances. Colleagues and fans have taken to social media to express their condolences and celebrate Mlangeni Nawa’s legacy. His portrayal of complex characters and commitment to storytelling have left an enduring impact on South African television.

As the nation reflects on his contributions, Don Mlangeni Nawa is remembered not only for his remarkable talent but also for his dedication to his craft and the inspiration he provided to aspiring actors.​
