Two learners from Dayveton Skills School drowned near Centurion during an excursion at school on Monday afternoon, 15 April 2024.
The learners both aged 13 and 16 were part of the group of learners who were on an excursion on the Hennops River near Centurion.
According to Tshwane Emergency Services spokesperson Thabo Charles Mabasa, said at around 15:14 they received a call regarding the incident.
“We received a call at 15:14 where it was reported that two learners have drowned on the Hennops River near Centurion”’.
He added that the SAPS divers were the one who found the bodies of the learners.
“The bodies were recovered by the South African Police Services divers and were declared dead by the paramedics on the scene. Circumstances leading to the drowning incident remain a subject of investigation by the SAPS,” he said.
At the beginning of this year, a grade 7 learner from Laerskool Queenswood in Pretoria was also a victim of drowned during school excursion.
In January this year a similar incident claim the life of a 12 year old Latoya Temilton, who attended also at Laerskool Queenswood.
He died as a result of drowning incident and this comes after the Nchupetsang Attorneys investigating the matter regarding the incident.
The four educators from the school, who were responsible for the death of a 12 year old learner, were charged with gross negligence by the Gauteng Department of Education who suggested the law firm to investigate Temilto’s case.
