On Friday, March 1, 2024, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) stopped a robbery, showing they’re dedicated to city safety. Superintendent Xolani Fihla, JMPD spokesperson, explained what happened simply.

Superintendent Xolani Fihla, spokesperson for the JMPD, shared details of the incident in simple terms.According to Superintendent Fihla, officers were on duty at the corner of Prichard and Harrison Streets when they were approached by a man seeking help.

He explained how he had been tricked into making fake license plates for a Silver Toyota Fortuner by a group of individuals who then refused to pay him and sped off.Undeterred, the victim followed them until they stopped at a traffic light. There, one of the men threatened him with a gun. Seeking refuge, the victim turned to the officers for assistance.

Superintendent Fihla described how the officers, together with the victim, searched for the suspects and spotted the Silver Toyota Fortuner with the fake license plates. They stopped the vehicle and called for backup to ensure everyone’s safety.

“The victim positively identified the suspects, and we found a gun and the stolen plates in the car,” Superintendent Fihla said.

The suspects, aged between 22 and 32, were promptly arrested and taken to Johannesburg Central SAPS.Superintendent Fihla commended the officers for their quick response, stating, “Our officers are dedicated to fighting crime and upholding the law, no matter the situation.”

This successful intervention highlights the JMPD’s commitment to protecting the community and ensuring that criminals are brought to justice.
