Deputy President Paul Mashatile reassured the public of swift and efficient action to address the electricity shortage, emphasizing its impact on communities. Speaking at a 30-year celebration event at the University of Johannesburg, he underscored the government’s commitment since 1994.

Mashatile outlined immediate plans to tackle the electricity shortage, aiming for resolution by year-end, pledging personal dedication. “I want to assure you that there are immediate plans in place to tackle the electricity shortage. I understand if you may be skeptical, but I am committed. That is why I say it should not be resolved before the election but be dealt with by the end of this year,” he said.

Proposals for constructing additional power stations were discussed to augment electricity supply. Mashatile highlighted the significance of the upcoming national election, expressing confidence in the ANC’s performance and encouraging broad participation.

Commending the government’s investments in infrastructure, totaling R21.4 billion, Mashatile encouraged youth and women’s participation in business empowerment initiatives. He affirmed the government’s resolve to address the water crisis, with a dedicated team appointed by the President.

Echoing Mashatile’s sentiments, President’s office spokesperson Ms. Khumbudzo Ntshavheni highlighted significant economic growth since 1994. She cited a substantial increase in the national budget, emphasizing various community-centric programs like NSFAS funding, school meals, and healthcare support.
