This is an important update to all South Point students regarding the coronavirus which has put South Africa in a disaster zone (confirmed by Pres. Cyril Ramaphosa) and what South Point is aiming to do to ensure that all students are safe, health-wise.
South Point strongly urges those students who are able to go home to please start making travel arrangements due to the fact that home will present a less densely populated environment than student accommodation.
It is also important to note that South Point will not be terminating leases and will still offer core services, provided by scaled-down essential-services staff.
If you are unable to go home, South Point has put the following measures in place to ensure that your stay is hygenic as possible;
- For safety, biometrics will remain in place, but hand sanitiser dispensers will be in close proximity to the scanner (to minimise student touch-points, FDOs will open for students until such time that sanitisers are in place).
- Effective immediately, no visitors are into South Point student residences.
- Effective immediately, no events or social gatherings will be allowed in South Point student residences.
- Effective immediately, all entertainment areas and study areas in South Point student residences will be locked to prohibit social gatherings.
- Effective immediately, we will not allow visitors into any of South Point’s offices in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Pretoria or Port Elizabeth.
- Effective immediately, students will no longer need vacate notes to leave South Point student buildings for the Easter break.
Hand sanitiser dispensers (ordered last week) will be installed throughout all buildings nationally by Friday, 20 March 2020.
