Daily Maverick Shuts Down: A Stand for Independent Journalism
Share on FacebookShare on X

The closure of Daily Maverick on April 15, 2024, is not merely a cessation of operations but a bold statement in solidarity with the vital importance of independent journalism.

Mr. Mcinga said “A day, a week, a month with no news is a day, a week, a month without accountability and access to information.”

Our decision to participate in this no news protest underscores our unwavering commitment to upholding these principles. While the absence of Daily Maverick may be felt keenly by our readers and staff, it serves as a poignant reminder of the indispensable role that investigative journalism plays in safeguarding democracy and holding power to account.

We call upon our supporters and fellow advocates of press freedom to stand with us in this challenging time. The future of independent journalism depends on our collective action and unwavering dedication to preserving the free flow of information in society.
