City Power has sprung into action following an incident at the Eikenhof substation, where emergency repairs are underway on a feederboard after an isolator experienced a flash-over this evening.

The incident occurred around 20h00, impacting the dedicated transformer supplying power to the Rand Water Board pump station. As a consequence, Rand Water is currently unable to pump water, and unfortunately, no alternative supply is available.

City Power teams have responded swiftly and are currently on-site, diligently working on solutions to rectify the situation. Isaac Mangena, spokesperson for City Power, stated, “We will be dismantling the feederboard where the flashover occurred to conduct repairs and pressure-test it before attempting to restore.” Anticipating the extent of the work, Mangena further added, “Unfortunately, we anticipate this work to continue until Tuesday evening.”

The repercussions of this incident may extend to the water supply in Johannesburg and areas west of the city, including Mogale City, Krugersdorp, Carletonville, parts of Brits, and Rustenburg. However, the power supply to residential customers fed from the Eikenhof substation remains unaffected by this issue.

City Power has promptly informed the Rand Water Board of the situation and is working closely with their teams to implement solutions aimed at restoring the supply as soon as possible.
