Five suspects, aged between 30 and 35, were apprehended for the possession of suspected stolen items at Mall of the North on Thursday by members of SAPS Provincial Murder and Tracking Team and a private security company.
Acting on a tip about a planned bank robbery, the police team observed suspicious activities involving individuals driving a white Toyota Corolla at the mall. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the car was rented.
The police found new items, including clothes from different stores, in the car. The occupants were unable to provide proof of purchase receipts for the items. Store managers were called to the scene and confirmed that the items were stolen from their store.
The suspects were arrested for the possession of stolen items valued at R 100,000.00. The seized items, along with the white Toyota Corolla, were confiscated.
Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Limpopo, commended the team for their alertness and successful apprehension of the suspects.
The suspects are scheduled to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court soon.
