Police attacked in EdenPark while on duty

The Provincial Commissioner of the Police in Gauteng Lieutenant General Elias Mawela is calling for perpetrators to be arrested immediately for the attack on police in Edenpark on Thursday 12 October 2023. He said that the perpetrators’ behaviour towards law enforcement officers can not be tolerated.

It is reported that the police officers from Edenpark police station were on routine patrols when they noticed a suspicious car. It is alleged that the police stopped the car when community members who were at a nearby park started to attack the police. The members had to fire warning shots to protect themselves from the community members who were attacking them.

Lieutenant General Elias Mawela said that this is the second incident in a week where police were attacked in Edenpark. The Station Commander is still nursing injuries from an attack by a community member on Sunday, where he was responding to an assault case. the suspect has been arrested and denied bail.

“The violent behavior of some of the community off and unpack and lack of respect towards the police will not be tolerated. all those who were involved in the attack on police must be arrested and brought to justice, “said Lieutenant Elias Mawela.

A case of assault and attack on police has been opened at and then park police station for investigation.
