Dr. Sandile Kubheka, a well-known social figure, recently received his Fellowship from the College of Physicians of South Africa (FCP(SA)) at a graduation event in Cape Town.
He became famous in 2013 as South Africa’s youngest doctor when he graduated from the University of KwaZulu-Natal at only 20 years old. He was also nominated for the MAMA MTV Base Leadership Award and acknowledged by the Mail & Guardian in the same year.
He said the Fellowship is a significant accomplishment that reflects the effort, dedication, and determination he has invested over the years. He emphasized that this achievement is not just a personal success but also a testament to the support of his family, mentors, and colleagues.
“It symbolizes the culmination of a journey that began at a very young age when I was motivated to overcome challenges and pursue my passion for medicine. This accomplishment fuels my commitment to making a meaningful impact in healthcare and serving my community,” he explained.
Dr. Sandile also highlighted the importance of being a positive role model on social media, aiming to inspire and educate young people in South Africa.
“While I don’t see myself as particularly influential, I try to use social media as a tool for connecting with people and advocating for change in our healthcare system,” he said.
Currently, Dr. Sandile is a module coordinator for the 3rd-year internal medicine module at UKZN and teaches 4th-year medical students. He views this role as just the beginning of his teaching career and looks forward to expanding his involvement in health professions education.
