A terrible accident happened on the R70 road near Ventersburg in the Free State. A bus carrying students from Riebeeckstad High School in Welkom flipped over, causing a devastating outcome.
The spokesperson for the Free State Premier’s office, Palesa Chubisi, explained that the accident occurred about 30 kilometers from Ventersburg. The students were coming back from a sports event in Moolmanshoek near Rosendal, heading to Riebeeckstad in Welkom.
Sadly, six students lost their lives, and four were seriously injured. Many others suffered minor or moderate injuries, totaling 52 injured students. They were quickly taken to hospitals in Welkom and Senekal for treatment.
This is a sad reminder of how quickly things can go wrong. Our hearts go out to the families and friends of those who lost their lives, and we hope for a speedy recovery for those who were injured. It’s essential for authorities to investigate thoroughly to prevent such accidents from happening again.
