Cape Town to host Africa’s largest student accommodation expo in April 2025
South Africa’s urgent student housing crisis, marked by a shortage of over 500,000 beds at universities and TVET colleges, will take centre stage at the 6th Annual Africa Affordable Purpose-Built Student Accommodation Summit and Expo. The event, set for 10–12 April 2025 in Cape Town, aims to unite stakeholders to address funding, development, and management strategies for affordable student housing.
Organised by the Africa Affordable Purpose-Built Student Accommodation Summits, the three-day gathering will bring together universities, investors, developers, government officials, and construction experts. With the global student housing market projected to grow to USD 18.72 billion by 2032, according to Business Research Insights, the summit will explore innovative solutions to expand bed capacity while improving educational outcomes.
Imani Makau, Head of Operations & Business Development, emphasised the event’s role in bridging gaps between stakeholders. “This is Africa’s largest platform for connecting those who fund, build, and manage student housing. We’re focusing on sustainable methods, new technologies, and partnerships to close the accommodation gap,” she said.
New features this year include pitching sessions for developers to present projects to investors, a dedicated expo for suppliers, and networking activities like guided tours of Table Mountain, Robben Island, and Cape Town’s green infrastructure projects. Delegates can also attend workshops on proptech innovations and sustainable housing practices.
Early bird discounts for attendance close on 31 January 2025, with group promotions and exhibition stands available on a first-come basis. Developers with viable projects are encouraged to apply for pitch sessions via pbsa@pbsa.africa.
