On the 05th April 2023, the Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness, Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko announced 225 newly acquired Gauteng Department of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) response vehicles and outline the Gauteng Department of Health’s Easter readiness plans in Mamelodi, Tshwane. ‘’ We thought that this township Mamelodi is appropriate for this event because it remains one of our first growing townships, with an estimated population of 300 000. And with this increasing number of our residents, we are bound to see an increasing demand for emergency services that will be close to the communities.’’ Said MEC Nkomo-Ralehoko, the Gauteng MEC for Health and Wellness.
He further said that especially that they heard that there are three people who were burnt in a shack and there was nothing done with that issue. The newly acquired fleet boasts state-of-the-art technology and medical equipment. One of the community members said,’’ we are not ready who is going to drive those vehicles, we want permanent employment for CPW’s’’. The MEC PREMIER Panyaza L, said,’’ We are going to meet with the protestors, they have a right to protest but they also have the right to protect the rights of other people. I am going to ensure that I’m going to meet the MEC and the MEC responsible for finances. We met with all the unions, and there is a process that we agree on. If there are other people who are against our agreement, we are ready to hear you.’’ He further said that if people continue misbehaving the way they are doing that indicates how they will behave after being hired.
