On Wednesday morning, the 20th of September, the city of Tshwane experienced unprecedented storms in the northern parts of the city. The storm caused massive destruction to households in Hammanskraal and the surrounding areas. The temporary pyramid substation, which was built next to the Rooiwal Power Station, caught fire due to the result of lightning that burned the transformer, including the container. The fire spread into the Hight-Tension yard. Emergency Services was quick to respond and managed to extinguish the fire. “The extent of the damage which has caused quite the formidable amount of residents to be out of electricity. The team was on site, assessments have been made, and the Rooiwal Power Station is currently powered up and not damaged. The only part that is damaged is the High-Tension yard. The team will be emerging again to get a solution to as to how we then remedy and create temporary solutions and for residents to get back-up, “said MMC for Utilities Themba Fosi. ChatGPT

On the morning of Wednesday, September 20th, the city of Tshwane experienced an unprecedented storm in its northern parts. This storm inflicted massive damage on households in Hammanskraal and the surrounding areas. The temporary pyramid substation, located adjacent to the Rooiwal Power Station, caught fire as a result of a lightning strike that incinerated both the transformer and its container.

The fire subsequently spread into the High-Tension yard, prompting a swift response from Emergency Services, which successfully managed to extinguish the flames.

“The extent of the damage has left a considerable number of residents without electricity. Our team was on-site, conducted assessments, and confirmed that the Rooiwal Power Station itself is operational and undamaged. The only affected area is the High-Tension yard. Our team will return to develop a solution to rectify the situation and provide temporary alternatives to restore power for the affected residents,” stated MMC for Utilities Themba Fosi.
