A tragic shooting near the N4 highway has claimed the lives of Ayanda Mapalala Ngobeni and Busisiwe Khumalo, in what appears to be a targeted attack. The two women were found shot dead inside a white BMW after attending a biker rally.
Ayanda, a known bike enthusiast and member of the City of Mbombela Marathon Club, and Busisiwe were reportedly offered a lift home after the event in eMalahleni. Their bullet-riddled bodies were discovered in the stationary vehicle about 5km from the Alzu rest stop on Sunday morning, shortly before 09:00. One victim was found in the front passenger seat, while the other was slumped in the backseat.
The vehicle’s number plates had been removed but were later found inside a suitcase in the car.
Acting Provincial Commissioner of Mpumalanga, Major General Zeph Mkhwanazi, has assured the public that a specialist task team of experienced detectives is working tirelessly to solve the case.
“The team is connecting the dots in this shocking double murder, and we are committed to ensuring justice,” he stated.
At this stage, police have not shared further details, citing the sensitivity of the investigation. They have confirmed that the driver of the BMW was found safe but have not released any additional information regarding their identity or role in the case.
Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward to assist in bringing those responsible to justice.
