Soshanguve Sasol garage got robbed, an ATM was bombed and a shop robbed in the early hours of the morning of Thursday, May 9, in Soshanguve Extension 2 Block TT.
According to SAPS Warrant-Officer Johan Van Dyk, a group of seven men armed with handguns and rifles, arrived on the scene in a white Toyota Quantum at approximately 02:30.
He said the suspects wearing masks pretended to refuel their car, but instead held up the petrol attendant at gunpoint and ordered her to remain silent.
“We are now used to this garage being robbed. It’s normal, some even suspect it is the owner who organizes this robbery because it’s not happening at other garages around”. Said Okuhle, community member.
Van Dyk said then a big explosion was heard. He added that the suspects then robbed the shop, including the drop safe and ATM of an undisclosed amount of cash. He further indicated that another Toyota van driven by a man was also hijacked.
“The suspects robbed him of his firearm, wallet with an undisclosed amount of cash, bank cards, and a Hisense cellphone, as well as his firearm license. Another Toyota Quantum parked nearby was damaged, with the windscreen and side windows shattered but the driver managed to escape.” Said warrant officer Mr Dyk.
No arrest has been made and police are investigating and checking the CCTV footage from the garage.
