Manhattan Student Accommodation served up a feast for their students for three days straight, turning mealtime woes into delicious memories until the long-awaited student allowance came through.
The manager expressed concern over the daily struggle students face, going to bed with empty stomachs.
In response to the situation, students were informed that from April 11th to 13th, 2024, while NSFAS and TUT management continue to address the allowance issue, the residence will provide supper between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM.The delay in NSFAS food allowance has left many students at risk of hunger.
Kgothatso Maifadi, a student, expressed gratitude for the support, stating, “It has benefited me in a positive way as it has made our lives better and our stomach full. Studying on an empty stomach is a challenge as we need energy and nutrients from food, so our brain could function. Little Manhattan residence’s gesture has enabled us to study and attend our daily online classes with confidence,” she said.
Kevin Phehla, General Residence Coordinator and Advisor, emphasized the commitment of Little Manhattan to support students during this challenging time. “We cannot sit and do nothing while students are faced with such a tragic and painful situation,” he said.
“We are committed to doing something rather than nothing until the students receive their allowances,” he added.
