After the Independent Electoral Commission’s decision on the objections to candidates list for the 2024 NPE (National and Provincial Elections) the former President Jacob Zuma was found not eligible to stand as a candidate for his new political party uMkhonto wesizwe and this did not seat well with him and his politicial party.

He was disqualified because of his 2021 arrest for contempt of court and the former president was given a 15-month prison penalty by the Constitutional Court which is one of the reasons why he was disqualified, as a result the former President Zuma Jacob decided to appeal on the decision and the IEC sent the case to the Constitutional Court.

On 21st of May 2024 the Concourt took a decision regarding the case of the former President Jacob Zuma, and it was found that he is not eligible to be a candidate for his Political party uMkhonto weSizwe and this did not seat well with the members of
Mk.

“We are not surprised by Monday’s Constitutional Court ruling, the battle is not over and the Concourt’s decision infringe on the right of voters who want Zuma as their head of the state,” said the party spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhlela.

Now that the Constitutional Court has taken it decision the former President Jacob Zuma and his supporter must accept the rule of democratic law which is any person who was convicted of an offence and give a sentence to more than 12 months imprisonment without being given a fine is not eligible to stand as a candidate during elections.

The Independent Electoral Commission can now focus on and prepare for the upcoming election which are on 29th of May 2024 as it is done dealing with the uMkhonto weSizwe political party and the former President Jacob Zuma’s case which has delayed the (IEC) Independent Electoral Commission from the elections. The uMkhonto weSiwe followers who were not happy about the decision taken by Constitutional Court took the matter to the internet by commenting about the ruling of Concourt under a platform named X which was known as twitter.

“So, according to IEC, Gayton McKenzie and Kenny Kunene are also not eligible?” commented Chris Excel @ChrisExcel102
