South Africa is mourning the loss of Kwaito legend Doc Shebeleza, whose real name was Victor Bogopane. The 51-year-old artist died after a long illness, his family confirmed to TshisaLIVE.
The Ebumnandini hitmaker had been battling health issues for some time and was hospitalised in December. He had expressed hope and optimism ahead of a scheduled surgery, thanking fans for their prayers and support.
Doc Shebeleza rose to fame in 1996 with his debut album S’Kumfete, which cemented his status as a Kwaito pioneer. His hits like S’kumfete, Ingagara, and Ghets Ghetsa became household anthems. His influence extended beyond music, with Cassper Nyovest even honouring him in a track titled Doc Shebeleza.
