Mia Le Roux has been crowned Miss South Africa 2024, following a glamorous evening celebrating the 66th edition of the Miss South Africa pageant.
Le Roux, who was diagnosed with profound hearing loss at the age of one, is a 28-year-old from Sasolburg in the Free State but was raised in Oudtshoorn in the Western Cape. She beat Nompumelelo Maduna and Onalenna Constantin to win the title. She follows in the footsteps of Natasha Joubert and Ndavi Nokeri.
Describing herself as resilient, dedicated, graceful, and kind, Mia says her community inspired her to seek to make a positive impact and break barriers when they rallied behind her to help her regain the gift of hearing.
She won R1 million in cash and a brand-new Mercedes-Benz CLE Coupe as part of her award.
Miss South Africa 2022, Ndavi Nokeri, shared advice for the new Miss SA: “Own that crown. You don’t have to try to be the next Natasha, Ndavi, or Lalela. This is your crown. You’ve worked so hard and earned it, so make it your own,” she said.
In addition, Le Roux also won a sponsorship package that includes the use of a lavish serviced apartment and House of Bonang Netcare products for luxury beverage brands for the year of her reign.
The South African government, as well as various political parties including the African National Congress (ANC) and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), are among the many institutions that have posted congratulatory messages to Le Roux on their social media platforms.
