Recently, Dr. Thembelihle Angel Maziya (24) achieved her dream of obtaining her MBChB degree at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, becoming the only woman among 14 recipients who obtained the
degree this year.
Dr. Maziya, originally from Tjakastad in Mpumalanga, conveyed her gratitude to the University of KwaZulu-Natal for fulfilling her dream of obtaining a medical degree. Having completed her matric at Highveld Secondary, she embarked on the journey of studying medicine fueled by her passion for serving her community.
Currently, this young lady is employed at Rob Ferreira Hospital in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga, where she is thrilled to be acquiring hands-on experience in her field of work. “It wasn’t easy but my family and friends were there by my side, I persevered and completed my studies. It is fulfilling to receive this qualification as it confirms that with hard work, faith, and belief in God, anything is possible. I am grateful for the opportunity,” stated Maziya.
She emphasized the importance of seeking guidance and support from family, acknowledging their role in helping her make decisions and reminding her why she chose to pursue a medical career. “My parents are my inspiration, as I am the first person in my family to attend university. Both my parents are not working, and they instilled in me the value of hard work to improve our family’s situation. My family encouraged me to study hard because I wanted to make a difference and return to
Mpumalanga to enhance the lives of the people,” highlighted Dr. Maziya.
Sharing her success story, she emphasized the significance of learning, knowing what you want, and
putting in the effort to achieve positive outcomes. “I am a person who knows what I want. I sought educational resources, looked for ways to enhance my learning, and sought help when needed. I tried to gather information from other students as part of my learning process. I watched educational videos on YouTube and other resources,” she explained.
Dr. Maziya expressed her love for the medical field and her determination to continue learning and ensuring that individuals in her community live healthier lives. “I have completed these studies, but I am committed to continuing my education to become a specialist, treat women’s health issues, help people, and uplift society as a doctor. I want to assist people in living a healthy life and support my family in their well-being, leaving nothing unattended. I am determined to invest in property and possibly start a transportation business,” concluded Dr. Maziya.
This young woman enjoys volunteering, fundraising, bowling, and mentoring young people, as she
believes education is the key to uplifting individuals to their full potential.
